IndiGo takes a Patna-bound passenger to Udaipur; DGCA requires report | Patna News

NEW DELHI: “Jaate the Japan, pahunch gaye Cheen samajh gaye na….” Indigo brought to life this evergreen song by Kishore Kumar by taking a Patna-bound passenger from Delhi to Udaipur instead.
This mistake reportedly happened on January 30th. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has requested a report from the airline on this case and a senior regulatory official said that “appropriate action” would be taken against IndiGo for the same if something like this actually happened.
Your comments have been requested by IndiGo and are awaited.
It is learned that a passenger, Afsar Husayn, was scheduled to fly from Delhi Airport Terminal 1 to Patna on 6E-214 on 30 January 2023. Instead, Hussain boarded 6E-319 bound for Udaipur. It is not yet known how this happened as the boarding pass is being scanned at the point where passengers take coaches to get to the plane or at the air bridges.
Upon landing, Hussain realized he had reached Udaipur instead of Patna and informed the airline. Realizing his forfeiture, IndiGo reportedly flew him back to Delhi on the same day and then to Patna on 31 January.
Officials across all airlines are wondering how this mistake happened as there are multiple controls to ensure something like this – people boarding the wrong flight – doesn’t happen. Boarding passes are scanned at the terminal when a passenger heads to the aircraft, whether by coach or airbridge. When a coach takes passengers to the plane, the boarding pass is checked again when boarding.
