Indian batters disappoint as Australia win by 44 runs in Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up match | Cricket News

CAPE TOWN: Batting let India down again as they crumbled like a deck of cards to suffer a 44-point loss to low-scoring Australia Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up match on Monday.
Invited to bowl, Indian bowlers blew away Australia’s top order but the last Georgia Wareham (32) and Jess Jonassen’s (22) unbeaten 50-point partnership took Australia to 129 for 8.
In response, the Indian batters were struck out for 85 in 16 overs.
It was the second time in a row that the stick dropped India. The ‘Women in Blue’ suffered a similar collapse in last week’s Tri-Series final against South Africa.
Pacer Darcie Brown (4/17) was the chief wrecker as she cleaned up India’s top order, taking vital scalps from Shafali Verma (2), Smriti Mandhana (0) and Richa Gosh (5).
The dismal run by Jemimah Rodrigues, who opened the innings alongside Shafali, continued as she was at zero while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur failed to strike.
Harleen Doel (12) showed some intent, hitting two fours before succumbing to a run while Deepti Sharma was top scorer as the all-rounder went unbeaten on 19. She could have taken India down the line if anyone one had stayed with her until the end.
Earlier veteran pacer Shikha Pandei (2/9) struck in his first two overs to send Australian skipper Meg Lanning (0) and Tahlia McGrath (2) packing their bags.
A Radha Yadav run spelled the death knell for Ellyse Perry (1) as Australia were in shock at 10 for 3.
Ash Gardner (22) and Beth Mooney (28) provided some resistance but Pooja Vastrakar (2/16) and Radha Yadav (2/22) broke through the middle order.
Renuka Singh, who had the day off, was India’s most expensive bowler, giving up 39 runs in three overs.
But the Indians couldn’t break the partnership between Wareham and Jonassen who split five fours and three sixes.
