Watch: Aussie players rate winning India’s Test series bigger than Ashes | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Defining winning the series in India is bigger than winning the Ashes it’s certainly a huge statement coming direct from the Australian players just days before the start of the high-profile four-match Test series, which kicks off in Nagpur on February 9, for the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Australia have not won a Test series on Indian soil since 2004. India, on the other hand, would be looking to maintain their dominance having emerged victorious on their previous two tours to the country.
In a video uploaded by cricket.com.au, members of Australia’s current squad have poured their hearts out on the challenges of playing in India.

Australian stimulator Mitchell Starcwho will miss the first test through injury, said a series win in India has always been a crown jewel for visiting Australian sides.
“Winning a series in India is going to be really special for our group. I think it’s always been a crown jewel for touring Australian teams. It’s one of, if not the most difficult place to play away games in such foreign conditions.” and how strong the Indian team are too.
“On the one hand you have this whole Ashes thing and then you have this tour of India which has been out of reach for a lot of Australian teams.”
“If we could win an away tour of India and an away Ashes it would be a unique opportunity to do it this year,” Starc said.
Prominent Australian player Steve Smith believes victory in India is bigger than an Ashes series.
“It’s a tough place to win a Test match, let alone a series. So if we were able to do that, it would be huge. I think if you win India it’s bigger than an Ashes series,” said Smith.
Opener Warner said he was looking forward to playing against the best spinners in the world.
“Being part of the last Ashes was great but going to India and beating India in India is the toughest challenge for us in Test cricket.
“I’m looking forward to the tour, it’s always hard graft. One thing I’m really looking forward to is applying myself against the best spinners in the world,” added Warner.
“Probably the last thing to tick is winning a series in India and England. It’s been a long time since then Australia they won there or less frequently they won. In world cricket that’s everyone’s goal – to try and win in India”, Australian paceman Josh Hazlewood She said
Australian Captain Pat Cummins he is looking forward to winning the series in India.
“Winning a series in India is like an away Ashes series, but rarer still. It will be a career highlight, an era-defining series if we win out there,” said Cummins.
