Prime Minister Modi tries to protect Adani and I understand why: Rahul Gandhi | News from India

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday continued his tirade against Modi on the Adani issue, claiming the PM is trying to “protect” the industrialist amid allegations of stock manipulation by US-based Hindenburg Research United States.
Speaking after the PM’s speech in Lok Sabha, he said Modi had not responded to questions posed to him or ordered any inquiry into the allegations.
On Tuesday, Rahul had questioned Gautam Adani’s alleged links with PM Ways and questioned the increase in the businessman’s wealth since the BJP came to power in 2014.
“I’m not satisfied, but reveal the truth. There has been no talk of an investigation. If he’s not a friend, then he should have agreed to an investigation. There has been no investigation into shell companies in the defense industry and the Benami’s money has changed hands, but PM hasn’t said anything about it.
“It’s clear the prime minister is protecting him,” Rahul told reporters following Modi’s response to the motion of thanks to the president’s speech.
“He (PM) is definitely trying to protect him (Adani) and I understand that and there are reasons for that,” he also said.
Rahul further said that the Adani issue is a national security issue and affects the country’s infrastructure.
“This is a very big scam. He didn’t even say that. He (PM) is definitely trying to protect him (Adani) and I understand that and there are reasons for that,” she said.
Asked if he got any answers to his questions, the former Congress head said: “I have not received any response from the Prime Minister to my questions.”
“The Prime Minister was in shock. He was in shock and there was no answer. I didn’t ask any complicated questions. I just asked how many times did he (Adani) come with you. How many times did he meet you. I asked simple but I got no answers,” he said.
Earlier in Lok Sabha, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said Rahul struck the right chord by pointing out the matter relating to industrialist Gautam Adani, but insisted the party had no “personal issues” with Adani or Ambani.
“We want the country to grow and have more industrialists,” Chowdhury said, attending a debate on the motion of thanks to the president’s Lok Sabha speech.
Rahul Gandhi had led a vicious opposition attack on Lok Sabha over a report by US short seller Hindenburg Research.
Rahul had said that the rapid rise of Adani’s fortunes came after the BJP came to power in 2014 and climbed the global rich list from 609th to second place at last.
In his speech today, Prime Minister Modi indirectly mocked Rahul, saying that the entire “ecosystem” and their supporters were jubilant after “some people’s comments” yesterday.
