Dinesh Karthik & Mark Waugh Match Prediction Jokes in Live Commentary | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: The rivalry between India and Australia is famous for its verbal duels, sledding and mind games but is not limited to just the cricket ground as the only incident was witnessed on air when commentators Dinesh Karthik and Mark Waugh they argued during the first day of the first Test in Nagpur.
India sprinted after beating Australia for 177 and were 15/0 in the third when Karthik made a prediction: ‘I come early to make a prediction, I feel strongly that India will bat once and only once in this test match.
Waugh wasted no time in responding, “We’ll see on that DK, we’ll see.”
Karthik remained adamant in his prediction: ‘Mark my words Mark’.
Waugh showed his apprehensions to echo DK’s comments: “What time is it. It’s five past three. I’ll write it in my journal. He might be right. It won’t be easy, it won’t be a walk in the park.”
Karthik said: “But at the same time, it’s not as difficult as the Australian batsmen have thought.”
Waugh: “All I’m saying is never judge a pitch until two teams have batted. Let’s see how things play out. It’s a great session, Australia won’t let India get away. This test Indians don’t bat as good as some of the Australians. I can’t see two guys with an average of 60”.
Karthik: “Well, there was only one there in India, averaging 60.”
Waugh: “Rohit Sharma class player, world class Virat Kohli, Pujara Thor from the side.”
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri also joined the conversation and reminded Waugh of his prediction he made during India’s last Down Under tour. “I remember a prediction he made when we were 36 in Adelaide Australia when he said ‘India will be beaten 4-0’. Keep predicting Mark!”
Waugh said, “I probably wasn’t the only one who predicted it. I actually can’t remember that prediction either Ravi just silent. I don’t remember saying it myself.”
The first day of the opening test saw the hosts beat their opponents in all departments of the game. Ravindra Jadeja’s five wicket haul on his return from an injury dismissal and Ravichandran Ashwin’s three wickets helped India defeat Australia for 177 in the first innings.
In reply, India were 77 for one in stumps, with skipper Rohit Sharma on 56 and Ashwin, yet to score, to the box. India are still behind Australia by 100 runs.
