Eiffel Tower crime wave: Tourists ‘sexually assaulted’ near French landmark amid safety concerns

Two Brazilian tourists were allegedly sexually assaulted, one of whom possibly raped, as they visited the Eiffel Tower on Sunday.

“The rape of a woman at the foot of the Eiffel Tower once again highlights the dangers of the Champ de Mars site,” said Rachida Dati, mayor of the 7th arrondissement (district) of Paris, where the Eiffel Tower is located.

The victims, who are sisters, met two young men hours before the attack and visited the famous site, strolling along the Champ de Mars lawn between the Eiffel Tower and the Paris military training ground. One of the men forcibly grabbed the older sister’s buttocks, but she managed to escape from him.

He found his sister pinned to the ground by the second man, forcing the second suspect to flee, French broadcaster BFM TV reported. The sisters were taken to a local police station and the men are still at large.
