Saab Sets Up Manufacturing Facility for Carl-Gustaf Weapon System in India | News from India

BENGALURU: Swedish Defense Major Saab announced on Saturday that he is setting up a manufacturing facility in India for Carl-Gustaf recoilless rifles that will support the production of the portable multi-role weapon system for the Indian Armed Forces.
Saab will also work with Indian subcontractors and the systems manufactured at the facility will fully meet the requirements of ‘Make in India’, President and Chief Executive Officer, Saab India Technologies, said Mats Palmberg.
“We are fully committed to enabling the Indian government’s ‘Atmanirbhar’ approach to defense capability. To this end, Saab is setting up a manufacturing facility for Carl-Gustaf in India, further bolstering manufacturing in the country,” he said.
The facility will support the production of Carl-Gustaf M4s for the Indian Armed Forces, as well as components for system users around the world, Palmberg added.
The Carl-Gustaf M4 is a portable multi-role weapon system that provides high tactical flexibility through its broad range of ammunition types, a company statement said. “It’s extremely light (less than seven kilograms) and has improved ergonomics that reduce action times,” he said.
The new M4 meets the demands of modern conflict environments while offering compatibility with future innovations. The Carl-Gustaf weapon system has been in service with the Indian Army since 1976, the statement said.
Thanks to its wide variety of ammunition, the Carl-Gustaf has established itself as the premier shouldered weapon in the Indian Armed Forces, the company said.
Meanwhile, Saab said it will exhibit a range of products and solutions for a rapidly changing defense and security environment at Aero India 2023, the five-day aerospace and defense exhibition, which kicks off here on Feb. 13.
In addition, the company will engage with Indian industry to further its plans to build a strong defense industrial base in India by manufacturing products for India and the rest of the world, he said.
“At Aero India 2023, we will showcase our latest technologies that are changing defense and security planning, deployment and future readiness of forces,” Palmberg added.
