NEW DELHI: A bevy of celebrities and personalities made their way to the Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru on Sunday, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi played the perfect dinner host and won the hearts of his guests with unmatched charm and commentary witty.

From inviting a legendary former cricketer to click on photos of cheetahs to discussing including sport in school curricula, from praising ‘Kantara’ to recognizing cinema as soft power, from surprising a comedian with his popular catchphrase”Aiyyo” in the talks on access to capital for start-ups, everyone took part PM WaysHis offensive charm with well-known personalities from various fields.
Karnataka is headed for assembly elections in April-May, with the ruling BJP scrambling to maintain power in the state.
Prime Minister Modi met Kannada actors Yes AND Rishab Shettyactor Puneeth Rajkumar’s wife Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, former cricketers Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad, cricketers Mayank Agarwal and Manish Pandey, comedian Shraddha (popularly known as Aiyyo Shraddha), men of business Tarun Mehta, co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy, and Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, along with other well-known personalities.
PM exclaims “aiyyo” when meeting the comedian
Comic Shraddha Jain, popularly known as ‘Aiyyo Shraddha’ said she had a wonderful chat with Prime Minister Modi. “He told us how proud he was of the way the South Indian film industry has showcased the beauty and wealth of our country.”

“I’m still stunned. He met me and we shook hands. When I walked into the room, he said Aiyyo, which is a prefix to my name on social media… the fact that he remembered, my face and Aiyyo said… I didn’t expect her to say that,” she said.

Last month, Jain posted a video with his hilarious take on layoffs in the tech sector. In the clip, Jain plays a technician fired from his job and criticizes tech companies that are laying off employees despite making millions in profits. The video quickly went viral.
PM welcomes the contribution of the film industries
The prime minister had arrived in Bengaluru on Sunday evening to attend the inauguration of the 14th edition of Aero India on Monday.
Prime Minister Modi told the actors that the film industries of the southern states have given a great boost to India’s culture and identity through their work. He particularly liked the way they encouraged women’s participation, a PTI report said, citing sources.

The PM stressed the need to leverage the ITIs to deliver film related courses especially in areas requiring technical skills and also remembered the late actor Puneeth Rajkumar during the interaction.
Actor Rishab Shetty of ‘Kantara’ fame said meeting Prime Minister Modi was a dream come true. “He (Modi) asked what is going on in the Indian and Kannada industry and what is required for the Kannada industry here. He also briefed us what can be done in the future. We talked for a long time and he listened to us too” , he said .

The actor said the prime minister mentioned Kantara several times. “The film is about our Indian folklore, rituals, beliefs, culture, for which Prime Minister Modi congratulated us. I am very happy. I was very happy to hear it.”

Another prominent Kannada actor Yash said he was impressed by the prime minister’s detailed knowledge of the film industries. “He called cinema soft power. He has a great vision for the industry. It was a wonderful experience and as always he was very inspirational.”
You have to photograph cheetahs: PM tells Kumble
Speaking with sports enthusiasts, the prime minister highlighted the measures taken by the central government to encourage sporting talent, including through national education policy.
Former cricketer Anil Kumble, who has an interest in wildlife photography, was taken aback when Prime Minister Modi urged him to go to Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh and click photos of cheetahs that are were brought from Namibia

“It was wonderful and a great honor to meet the Prime Minister. I had met him five years ago in Chhattisgarh at an event and post this was the personal interaction I had, it was wonderful. He said we have cheetahs now, you have to come and photograph the cheetahs,” said Kumble.
Former cricketer Srinath said the prime minister had discussed many topics with them.
“It was nice to hear from the prime minister that it’s important to have sport as a curriculum. That kind of talk is inspiring.” The PM has great vision towards Indian sports and also has deep knowledge of what needs to be done to take it to the next level too, added Srinath.
Push for start-ups
The discussion with the start-up world focused on how to further support it and nurture an innovation ecosystem in India.
Zerodha’s Nikhil Kamath said the details the prime minister remembers and his deep knowledge of all sectors are “amazing”.
“It was very nice of him to take all the time he spent with us. The reason we exist in many ways, many of us, is because of the stable environment that has been created in India, the access to capital , our messaging to the world that has allowed start-ups like us to thrive,” he noted.
