Tesla Recalls 362,000 Cars in US Over Concerns Full Self-Driving Software Could Cause Crashes | Business news

Tesla is recalling hundreds of thousands of cars in the US over fears their self-driving software (FSD) could cause an accident.

The announcement was made by the country’s automotive safety regulator, NHTSA, which conducted an investigation into the company’s autopilot systems.

said the watchdog TeslaThe software allows a vehicle to “exceed speed limits or cross intersections
illegally or unpredictably”, increasing the risk of an accident.

The recall affects 2016-2023 Model S, 2017-2023 Model X, Model 3, and 2020-2023 Model Y models equipped with FSD Beta software.

It was unclear at the time whether the alert had implications for Tesla’s cars in other countries, including the UK.

“Tesla will release a free over-the-air (OTA) software update,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

Tesla said it is unaware of any injuries or deaths that could be related to the recall issue.

“The feature could potentially violate local traffic laws or customs when performing certain driving manoeuvres”,
explained the regulator.

“Possible situations where the problem could occur include traveling or turning through certain intersections during a yellow light and changing lanes out of certain turn-only lanes to continue traveling straight ahead.

Last year, Tesla recalled nearly 54,000 U.S. vehicles with the same software that may have allowed some models to stop too slowly.

Tesla and NHTSA say FSD’s advanced driving features don’t make the cars autonomous and require drivers to pay attention.
