Tripura Assembly Elections 2023: Voter Turnout 80% Recorded, Polls ‘Largely Violence Free’ | Tripura election news

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission said there was “hardly any violence” during Thursday’s Tripura assembly elections, and Bru migrant voters were able to cast their votes for the first time in many years.
80% of those entitled to vote were present in the voting booth. Final participation data will be available by Friday, she said.

According to EC officials, no complaints requesting a re-polling have been received so far.

“There have been no reports of serious violence or attacks on candidates or agents (polls), intimidation of voters, bomb throwing, repeated (or) damage to EVM. Compared to 168 responses in the state in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the polls Today’s polls in 60 assembly seats in Tripura were largely peaceful and no (request for) re-polling has been reported so far,” the election commission said.

Reported “minor cases” of violence were promptly investigated by local teams, he said.
For the first time in many years, Bru migrant voters were able to exercise their right to vote. Special efforts were made to enroll voters from the Bru community. Approximately 14,055 eligible Brus were enrolled in the state in 12 localities. They cast their votes in these places spread across four districts.

This time there was a 25-fold increase in seizures amounting to Rs 44.67 crore compared to the 2018 assembly elections when the figure was Rs 1.79 crore.
There has been an increase in seizures from all points of view: cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals and gifts.

The EC referred to a statement by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar that violence before, during and after elections remained in only a few states and there is no place for violence in polls in a democracy.
