Prime Minister Modi’s instructions on eco focus reflected in Karnataka budget | News from India

NEW DELHI/BENGALURU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call on the BJP national executive to put emphasis on environmentally friendly policies has started to be reflected in the party’s policy decisions.
Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai called the state budget he presented on Friday as “environmentally friendly” with the aim of reducing the risks to the environment through the implementation of various schemes.
“The Eco Budget will help revive green vegetation in hills, increase green cover in areas where green cover has been lost, Kandla forestry activities in coastal areas of the state and also safety belt management,” he Bommai said while explaining the key features of the state budget.
About 3,211 hectares of area will be under safety belt management and about 168 km of area under the Krishna River catchment area will have green cover. He also detailed plans to plant around 25 lakh saplings in the state in the coming days.
Bommai had presented a surplus budget to boost the “New Karnataka” vision, promising the empowerment of women, peasants and the weakest sections of society without compromising the development aspirations of the state. He presented a budget of more than Rs 3 lakh crore at the Karnataka assembly. To ensure that farmers in Karnataka rose to the occasion, Bommai presented a series of proposals for a massive expansion of irrigation and credit facilities for the farming community. A sum of Rs 25,000 crore has been earmarked for the 30 lakh farmers.
The vision of ‘New Karnataka’ as envisioned by the government represents world-class infrastructure in the state, holding the hand of the weaker sections to help them make the most of the gains from Karnataka’s growth, female emancipationaccess to affordable education and health care.
