Alligator found in lake in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park in New York City | US News

A 4-foot-long alligator was pulled from a park lake in New York City.

The creature, which has been dubbed Godzilla, was spotted Sunday in a lake in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park.

The animal was said to be in poor condition and was “very lethargic and possibly in cold shock” when it was rescued.

It’s unclear how the alligator found its way into the lake, but it has been suggested that it may have been abandoned by its owner.

Releasing animals in New York parks is illegal, while officials have also warned that such action could introduce a serious threat to other species.

In a statement, NYC Parks said, “Thankfully no one was injured and the animal is being evaluated.

“In addition to the potential danger to park-goers this may have caused, the release of unwanted non-indigenous animals or pets can lead to the elimination of native species and unhealthy water quality.”
