NEW DELHI: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray charged on Monday Eknath Shinde and the BJP for stealing his party name “Shiv Sena” and its symbol as part of a conspiracy to end the party.

Shinde stole my party and election symbol, but they can’t steal my last name: Uddhav Thackeray

“Everything has been stolen from me. Our party name and emblem have been stolen but the name ‘Thackeray’ cannot be stolen. We have moved the Supreme Court against the election commission’s decision, the hearing will start from tomorrow,” Uddhav said.
Uddhav also launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India, accusing it of favoring Prime Minister Eknath Shinde.

“The Election Commission should be dissolved; the election commissioners should be elected by the people,” Uddhav said.
The Electoral Commission of India (ECI) on Friday awarded the party name ‘Shiv Sena’ and the ‘Bow and Arrow’ symbol to the faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The Election Commission had in its order noted that the current constitution of Shiv Sena Party is undemocratic and it was “mutilated to undemocratically appoint people of a fraternity as officials without any election”. He said such party structures fail to inspire confidence.

Soon after the EC order, Uddhav Thackeray’s faction accused the Election Commission of haste and said the decision shows that it “works as an agent of the BJP”.
Uddhav had also called the jury’s decision an “assassination of democracy”.
Uddhav Thackeray’s faction has urged the supreme court to suspend the decision of the EC to grant the name Shiv Sena and the bow and arrow symbol to the Eknath Shinde faction.
