Rajya Sabha Chairman Asks Privileged Committee to Investigate ‘Disorderly Conduct’ of 12 Opposition MPs | News from India

NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha President Jagdeep Dhankhar has asked a parliamentary committee to investigate the alleged violation of privileges by 12 Congress and AAP MPs by repeatedly entering the House well, shouting slogans and obstructing its work.
According to A Raja Sabha bulletin, nine MPs are from the Congress and three from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The Congress MPs are Shaktisinh Gohil, Naranbhai J Rathwa, Syed Nasir Hussain, Kumar Ketkar, Imran Prattapgarhi, L Hanumanthaiah, Phulo Devi Netam, Jebi Mather Hisham and Ranjeet Ranjan.
The members of the AAP are Sanjay Singh, Sushil Kumar Gupta and Sandeep Kumar Pathak.
Reacting to the development, AAP MP Singh said, “We have done nothing which amounts to a violation of privilege. We have only stated the truth and exposed a scam relating to millions of ordinary people.”
“When we get the notice, we will respond to it,” he told PTI.
In its February 18 bulletin, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat said, “…the President…referred to an issue of alleged infringement of privileges arising out of disorderly conduct displayed by (MPs)…in breach of rules and etiquette of Rajya Sabha by repeatedly entering the council well, shouting slogans and persistently and intentionally obstructing the council’s work, forcing the chairman to repeatedly adjourn council sessions.”
The Rajya Sabha has seen repeated disruptions due to the protests of the opposition MPs on various issues during the first leg of the budget session which ended earlier this month.
In another notice, the Rajya Sabha secretariat said, “…members are advised that the chairman, Rajya Sabha, has raised a matter of alleged infringement of privileges arising out of failure to comply with the chairman’s directions against repeated submissions of identical notices under Rule 267 by Shri Sanjay Singh, Member, Rajya Sabha, under Rule 203 of the Rules of Procedure and Business Conduct of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) to the Privileges Committee for Examination, l investigation and report.”
