Air India Newark-Delhi flight diverted to Stockholm

NEW DELHI: An Flight of Air India from Newark to Delhi was diverted to Stockholm on Wednesday due to an oil leak in one of the engines, according to a senior official. The senior DGCA official said the flight, which was operated with Boeing 777-300ERs, experienced an oil leak in one of the engines.
As a result of the oil leak, the engine was shut down and the flight later landed safely in Stockholm, the official added.
About 300 passengers on the flight are gripped by fear as dozens of firefighters rush towards the flight at Stockholm airport. Air India flight departed at 11:35am from New York on 21st February (yesterday) and was due to reach New Delhi today at 11:35am. There are around 45 passengers from both Telugu states in the flight, one of the passengers D Bhaskar told TOI.
The flight developed a technical problem around 12:30 midnight, around 5:00 am Indian time on Wednesday. All passengers were moved to the airport lounge. Most passengers will miss connecting flights from New Delhi as authorities have not disclosed possible departure times from Stockholm.
During the ground inspection, oil was seen leaking from the exhaust shaft of engine two, the official said, adding that the inspection is ongoing.
An Air India flight from New York to Delhi was diverted to London on Monday due to a medical emergency.
