The court issued the order after hearing a motion made by Oberoi.
In a swipe in the arm for the AAP, the apex court also ruled that members appointed to the MCD by the Lt Governor cannot vote to elect the mayor.
After the results were announced, Oberoi wore a wreath and acknowledged people’s greetings with folded hands.
Soon after the results were announced at MCD House, AAP councilors handed sweets to the newly elected mayor as female councilors were seen jostling around the stage to take a selfie with her, while other members flashed signs of victory.
After being elected, Oberoi said, “I thank CM Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and the people of Delhi. We will be visiting the landfills in the next three days.
“All the councilors will only work from today. The 10 guarantee program will be our focus. The elections for the deputy mayor and the permanent commission will be held today. I also thank the judiciary”.

In reaction to this, Delhi Congress chief Anil Chaudhary said he learned that a party adviser had attended Wednesday’s voting and that they were trying to identify that person.
The AAP had emerged as a clear winner in the Dec. 4 MCD polls, bagging 134 wards and ending the BJP’s 15-year rule in the civic body. The BJP won 104 constituencies to finish second, while Congress won nine seats in the 250-member Municipal House.
