EVKS Elangovan wins Erode East by election by a margin of 66,087 votes | Chennai News

ERODE: Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan won the by-election for the Erode East assembly constituency by a margin of 66,087 votes.
At the end of the 15th and final round on Thursday evening, former Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Chairman got 1,09,906 votes while his opponent KS Thennarasu of AIADMK got 43,819 votes.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of Elangovan’s son and MLA Congressman E Thirumahan Everaa on 4 January. Thirumahan died of cardiac arrest at the age of 46. Thirumahan defeated his opponent Yuvaraja of the Tamil Manila Congress by a margin of 8,904 votes in the 2021 Tamil Nadu assembly election. Elangovan surpassed this margin in the second counting round.
Elangovan said all the credit for his upcoming poll win went to Prime Minister MK Stalin. “My victory was secured. But I didn’t expect such a big margin,” he told reporters. The former union minister said he was not in a mood to celebrate. “All I want to do is continue the work my son left behind,” he said
Stalin told reporters in Chennai that the poll result was a sign of the people’s overwhelming support for the Dravidian model government.
