NEW DELHI: In the end, there were no miracles, just a lot of twists and turns, mixed with mind games from players on both sides. With only 76 needed, Australia picked up a 9 wicket win over India at Holkar Stadium, Indore on Friday.
With this win on Day 3, Australia sealed their World Trials Championship final place. India lead all four matches Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1 series with a test to be done in Ahmedabad, which India will have to win to reach the WTC final.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ravichandran Ashwin played the first lesson of the day and immediately impressed by having Usman Khawaja taken hostage by Srikar Bharat at the second ball of the day. Khawaja took the criticism but the replays showed an edge much to the delight of the Indians.
Travis head (49*) and Marnus Labuschagne (28*) ensured there were no more setbacks and guided Australia to victory.

In the end, India paid the price for grooming a rank-turner, ending up falling into their own trap.
Captain Rohit Sharma, who had said the day before this Test, “what happened to them (Australia) in this series could happen to us, because of the (rotating) throws”, proved prophetic.
Nathan Lyons ripped out the hearts of India’s batting roster by earning their second-best Test figures in the process. Lyon took 8/64 in India’s second set to turn the game around on Day 2.
The match was set for Australia on Day 1 when they beat India for 109.
