Firefighters battled a huge blaze at a high-rise building in a popular shopping district in Hong Kong.

All hell broke out at a construction site during a redevelopment of the Mariners’ Club in the Tsim Sha Tsui district, setting several floors of the structure ablaze.

Debris could be seen falling from the block in the densely populated area.

No casualties were reported after the fire broke out at 23:00 local time (1500 GMT) on Thursday.

The Empire Group’s redevelopment plan had been to construct a historic 42-storey building which would include the club and a new hotel.

THE hong kong the site is surrounded by other hotels, a shopping center and residential properties.

Police said four other adjacent buildings also caught fire, but were later extinguished.

Some residents of a building near the scene were evacuated, but authorities did not reveal how many people were moved.

Tsim Sha Tsui is a tourist destination in Hong Kong and a major shopping district, famous for its skyscrapers and views of Victoria Harbor.
