Irani Cup: Yashasvi Jaiswal scores second ton of match as ROI inch closer to victory | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Yashasvi Jaiswal proved to be the star performer again with his second hundred of the game which helped Rest of India set a tough target of 437 for Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.
After batting a sublime 213 in the first set, Jaiswal contributed 144 to his team’s second set total of 246.
The host MP lost two wickets to reach 81 at stubs on the penultimate day, needing another 356 on the final day to win his first championship in one match.
However, with the kind of bowling resources at Rest of India’s disposal, it will be a miracle if the Madhya Pradesh side are lucky enough to get their hands on the prestigious trophy.
The day once again belonged to Jaiswal, who now have nine hundred in 15 first-class games.
His dominance was such that the next best score was 30 by the versatile Atit Sheth. The southpaw’s 157-ball shot had 16 fours and three sixes.
The cent came when he played a deft late cut to a Saransh Jain delivery, using the pace of the delivery.
But the best shot was a flat six at bat in the middle of the deep wicket from the fastest bowler in the opposition Avesh Khan (2/58).
Neither pacers nor spinners – Kumar Kartikeya (1/48), Saransh Jain (2/56) could really impact the Mumbai fly-half, who would run down the lane whenever the spinners stole the ball. Once they fell with great pace on deliveries, he would turn around and hit them sideways.
Jaiswal, with 357 runs in the game, will surely take that confidence in the future as he has now announced his arrival and is knocking on the door of the national team.
When MP struck, rookie Arham Aquil was again fired by Mukesh Kumar, this time with a delivery that fell back to trap the southpaw up front.
Veteran batsman Shubham Sharma had an unforgettable game with the bat as he was only thrown for 13 by left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar after misjudging the line and length of the delivery.
Short scores: Rest of India 484 and 246 in 71.3 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 144, Abhimanyu Easwaran 28, Atit Seth 30, Avesh Khan 2/58).
MP 294 and (target 437) 81/2 (Himanshu Mantri 51 not released, Mukesh Kumar 1/16).
