German authorities: shots fired inside the church causing several victims

One or more people opened fire at a church in the northern German city of Hamburg on Thursday evening, authorities said, and local media reported several people were killed.

Police had previously claimed on Twitter that a major operation was underway in the nearby Alsterdorf district. The area is located a few miles north of central Hamburg, which is Germany’s second largest city.

German news agency Dpa said “several” people were killed and some injured, but did not provide exact figures.
