NEW DELHI: Indian star hitter Virat Kohli overtook legendary West Indies Brian Lara on Saturday to become the second-highest scorer against Australia in international cricket.
Kohli reached the milestone on day three of the fourth and final Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad.
The maestro hit 59 steps to end his half-century drought in the longest format. Kohli’s final fifty returned in January 2022.
With the half-century unbeaten, Kohli surpassed Lara’s record for most runs against Australia.
Kohli, who loves playing against Australia, now has 4,729 runs in 89 games across all formats. The 34-year-old scored those runs at an average of 50.84 and has 15 tons and 24 fifty to his name with the individual best score of 169.

Lara, meanwhile, scored 4,714 points in 82 games (Tests and ODI) against Australia. He racked up 12 tons with the best score of 277.
The top scorer against Australia is the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. In 110 games and 144 innings, Tendulkar scored 6,707 runs at an average of 49.68. With 20 tonnes and 31 in his fifties, Sachin achieved the best individual score of 241* against the Australians.
