Former MSP Tommy Sheridan pays tribute to ‘wonderful’ mum who died in house fire | Political News

A former MSP has paid tribute to his “wonderful mum” after she died following a fire at her home in Glasgow.

Tommy Sheridan, who led the Scottish Socialist Party during his time in Holyrood and co-founded Solidarity, confirmed on Twitter that 84-year-old Alice Sheridan died on Sunday night.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to her flat on Invergyle Drive at 7.49pm after reports of a blaze, and sent four engines to the incident.

However, Mrs Sheridan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire service and Police Scotland are now carrying out a joint investigation into the circumstances.

Posting on social media, Mr Sheridan said: “Our hearts are broken. Last night in circumstances still being investigated our wonderful mum Alice Sheridan died in a fire within her flat in Cardonald.

“Our inspiration and muse.

“She fought against injustice all her life. Rest In Eternal Peace Mum.”

The fire service offered their condolences in a statement, saying: “Our thoughts are very much with her family, friends and all of those affected at this difficult time.”
