Charles: King Charles refuses to pay Prince Andrew’s Indian guru Rs 32 lakh

LONDON: King Charles allegedly refused to pay for the services of an Indian guru hired by Prince Andrew.
According to British tabloid ‘The Sun’, Andrew handed over the £32,000 (Rs 32 lakh) annual bill to the private purse to pay for the Indian healer’s services, expecting it to be signed off without issue. Instead, King Charles told him he would have to pay for it himself. The private purse is the private income of the British monarch. It comes from the net income of the private estate of the Duchy of Lancaster and, in the year ending March 31, 2022, amounted to an annual income of £24 million (Rs 240 crore).
The male yogi is said to have been treating Andrew, 63, using chanting, massage and holistic therapy in the privacy of his 30-room £30 million (Rs 300 crore) mansion, and has been for several years . The healer is believed to stay for up to a month at Andrew’s house of grace and favor, Royal Lodge in Windsor. His mother, the late queen, used to sign the bills, no questions asked. The Sun quoted sources as saying: ‘While the Queen has always been happy to please her son over the years, Charles is much less inclined to fund such indulgences, especially at a time of a cost of living crisis. . Families are struggling and would rightly balk at the idea of tens of thousands of dollars being paid to an Indian guru to provide holistic treatment to a non-working royal.
In a separate stunt, Charles also reportedly plans to cut Andrew’s annual income by £249,000 (Rs 249 lakh), which is paid by the Duchy of Lancaster. Andrew is also kicked out of the Royal Lodge and offered Frogmore Cottage, which Harry and Meghan are kicked out of instead.
Frogmore Cottage is one of the cottages Queen Victoria gave to Abdul Karim, her personal Indian secretary, who was sent to England from Agra in 1887 to be her servant.
Andrew was stripped of his royal duties last year due to a scandal over his friendship with US financier Jeffrey Epstein, a convict sex offender, and allegations of sexual assault made by Virginia Giuffre, which he denies.
