Important to have proper recovery to perform better: Shami | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Pacer Mohammad Shami was at his best on the opening day against Australia where his superb second spell helped India to a five-wicket victory in Mumbai.
Shami, who recorded figures of 6-2-17-3 on Friday, sparked an Australian batting meltdown as the visitors were grouped for a modest 188 from 35.4 overs.
After the victory, Shami chats with his teammate Mohammed Siraj revealed his goal was to keep the ball in the right areas. The 32-year-old, who skipped optional training ahead of the ODI series opener, also stressed the importance of recovery, which he needed after netting 40 overs in the previous test in Ahmedabad.
“The plan was to keep it simple. We had also discussed in the team meeting about getting off to a good start, keeping the ball in the right areas and respecting our line and length,” Shami said in conversation with Siraj in a video published on BCCI.tv.

“The heat was also a problem. When we played the first spell it was hot, but later it got a little better to play when the wind started blowing.”
“After 40 overs of the Ahmedabad test, I needed 1-2 days to recover. I finished that recovery and came here for the game,” he said.
“Management accepted that I needed to recover. We have played so many matches that we know our skills and abilities, so it is important that we recover properly to perform better.”
Siraj also claimed three wickets for 29 runs to play a huge part in India’s win.
“When I get the new ball, I try to bowl. Like when there’s a left-hander, I try to bowl. I wanted to take as many wickets on the power play. I have one wicket,” said he declared.
“But when I went to fine leg when you were bowling, I was thinking ‘what’s going on’. I was wondering if the ref gave you the new ball or what?
“Then when I came to the bowling alley, the ball was well away from the wicket. So I also looked to play regularly in an area. I also received advice from you and we enjoyed the bowling at Wankhade.”
India will face Australia in the second ODI in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
