A magnitude 6.5 earthquake shook a island Equateur region on Saturday, prompting a rush of residents out of buildings. According to reports, at least four people were killed and Shame to the buildings have been caused.
Social media users reported damage to buildings. The earthquake had an epicenter 29 kilometers (18.02 miles) from the city of Balao in Guayas province.
Authorities said the quake did not appear likely to generate a tsunami.
State oil company Petroecuador said no damage was reported to the facilities and “operations are continuing as normal”.
