Former Taiwanese President Ma to visit China on historic trip

TAIPEI (Reuters) – Former Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou will visit China this month, his office said on Sunday, the first visit by a former or current Taiwanese leader since the ousted government of the Republic of Taiwan fled. China to the island in 1949.
Ma, who remains a senior member of Taiwan Kuomintang (KMT), an opposition party, held a historic meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Singapore at the end of 2015, shortly before the election of current Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen.
Ma’s office said he would visit China from March 27 to April 7 and visit the cities of Nanjing, Wuhan, Changsha, Chongqing and Shanghai.
