NEW DELHI: Mock exercises involving both public and private hospitals will be conducted across India on 10-11 April to assess emergency response for management Cases of covid-19the government confirmed on Saturday and stressed the need to maintain optimal tests to identify the emergence of new clusters.
The decision comes amid a gradual but sustained increase in Covid-19 cases.
A notice issued to states/UTs jointly by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan and ICMR Director-General Rajiv Bahl said most of the active cases of Covid-19 in the country are largely reported by a few states as Kerala (26%), Maharashtra (22%), Gujarat (14%), Karnataka (9%) and Tamil Nadu (6%).
“While hospitalization and death rates remain low, largely due to the significant COVID-19 vaccination coverage achieved across all states/UT, this gradual increase in cases necessitates reinvigorated public health actions to contain the increase,” the advisory said. . He added that there will be a virtual meeting with states on Monday to discuss the details of the simulated exercise, necessary to take stock of hospital readiness, human resource capacity building and vaccination coverage.
