NEW DELHI: Shakib Al Hasan had a fine five-wicket run against Ireland to become the top wicket-taker in T20Isovertaking New Zealander Tim Southee in Chittagong on Wednesday.
The Bangladesh star, who has appeared in all seven editions of the ICC T20 World Cup, reached the landmark when he trapped George Dockrell in the leg before the third ball of the sixth.
Riding Shakib’s unbeaten 38 and 5/22, Bangladesh won the second T20I by 77 points and sealed the three-game series 2-0.
Shakib has 136 wickets in the T20I so far at an average of 20.67 with a save rate of 6.8 with 2339 runs at a strike rate of 122.33.

Tim Southee sits in second place with 134 T20I wickets followed by Afghanistan Rashid Khan (129), Ish Sodhi from New Zealand (114) and Lasith Malinga from Sri Lanka (107).
Shakib made his T20I debut in 2006 against Zimbabwe and played 114 T20Is.
Bangladesh won Monday’s opener by 22 points. Game 3 is scheduled at the same venue on Friday.
