Harshal Patel: IPL 2023, RCB vs CSK, Explained: Why Harshal Patel didn’t bowl the entire 20th over of the CSK innings | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Harshal Patel managed to dismiss explosive opener CSK Devon Conway in IPL 2023 clash between RCB and CSK on Monday at M Chinnaswamy Stadium but failed to complete his full quota of 4 overs and had to have him taken off the attack after bowling two deliveries of his last over.
Glenn Maxwell completed the 20th over of the CSK innings.
Harshal threw two full pitches above the waist and was pulled out of the offense by onfield umpires.
WHY WAS HARSHAL TAKEN OUT OF THE ATTACK? WHAT DOES THE REGULATION SAY?
Under the current no-ball rules (issued an amendment in April 2019) if a bowler bowls two waist-high no-balls or beamers, which are considered dangerous by the field umpires, he must stop bowling from there on .

THE TWO NO-BALLS THROWN BY HARSHAL
Harshal’s first off-ball pitch was clearly above Moeen Ali’s waist height and was called off-ball. But Maxwell, who was the substitute captain for Faf du Plessis, who had walked off the pitch, called for a DRS review. The on-field umpire’s decision was upheld and a no-ball was given
On the next ball, which was a free throw, Ravindra Jadeja, who passed to the striker’s end, could only take a single.

The next delivery was again above waist height to Ali. The square leg referee however did not call this and Ali did a review, which showed that the ball was indeed above waist height.
Following this the umpires deemed the bowls to be ‘dangerous’ for the batsmen and after a brief discussion with Maxwell, Harshal was taken off the attack and Maxwell himself stepped in to complete the over. Harshal, who was clearly fighting for control, sent 5 deliveries in that time, but only 2 of them were legal deliveries. Maxwell then had to pitch the 4 remaining deliveries.
