KL Rahul ruled out of IPL likely to miss WTC final: report | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: In major setback to IPL franchise campaign Lucknow Super Giants, skipper KL Raul he was ruled out of the remainder of the season with a leg injury, a report in Cricbuzz said.
Rahul, who sustained the injury during their clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1, is also at risk of not playing for India in the World Test Championship final against Australia in June.
The Cricbuzz report states that Rahul is now in Mumbai for scans and the results will determine his attendance at the WTC Finalscheduled at the Oval from 7 to 11 June.
In the match against RCB, Rahul was injured while on the pitch and limped off the pitch.
While Rahul didn’t need a stretcher to walk off the court, pundits are not optimistic about his making it to the WTC final, according to the report.
“The nature of Rahul’s injury has only been a matter of speculation as neither LSG management nor the BCCI have released a formal statement. There are rumors that he could be suffering from a hamstring or hip injury. Just over 10 months ago, Rahul had hernia surgery in Germany and it is understood that all factors are taken into consideration,” the report added.
Apart from Rahul, left arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat is also ruled out of the IPL and his final WTC preparation is also in doubt after a freak accident in training before the Lucknow match against Bangalore.
Unadkat was bowling around the wicket in the nets when his left foot got caught in the orange rope holding up the nets and he landed badly on his left elbow. Subsequently, images showed him with a sling on his left arm and an ice pack on his left shoulder kept at all times by a medical staff member from Lucknow.
“The BCCI may name replacements once clarity is known. But it will be a no-brainer as to who could come in Rahul’s place. Ishan Kishan was in the Indian team not too long ago and so could be second wicketkeeper for the Test one-off,” the report added.

The report also said that the Indian team will leave for London for the WTC final on May 23, after the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) league stage concludes on May 21. Players whose IPL teams participate in the playoffs will leave for London at a later date.
