Chithravel sets national record in triple jump; Sable, Parul shatter NR in men’s and women’s 5000m | More sports News

NEW DELHI: Indian athletes have made their presence felt in international events with the triple jump Praveen Chithravel smashing the national record and beating the 2023 World Athletics Qualification standard of the championships in Cuba.
Avinash marten And Parul Chaudhary also produced record performances by setting men’s and women’s national records in the 5000 m at a track event in the United States.
Chithravel jumped 17.37m to finish on the top step of the podium at the V Prueba de Confrontacion 2023 competition on Saturday in Havana, Cuba, a World Category F athletics event, to break the previous national record of 17 .30 m established by Renjith Maheswary in 2016.

Chithravel, 21, also breached the Budapest 2023 World Championships in Athletics qualifying standard of 17.20m. His previous personal best was 17.18m, which he achieved by winning gold at the National Interstate Championships in Athletics in Chennai last year.
His effort of 17.37m also placed him in second place on the list of best non-wind assisted jumps. Chithravel is currently training in Cuba under coach Yoandri Betanzos, a native of that country.

Junior World Championships medalist T Selva Prabhu, who also trains with Chithravel, broke the national U-20 record with an effort of 16.58m for fourth place in the same event.
Sable and Chaudhary, both 28, broke former men’s and women’s national records in the 5,000m at the Sound Running Track Festival, a silver-level event on the World Continental Athletics Tour, in Los Angeles in the United States on Saturday .

Sable bettered his own previous national mark of 13:25:65 clocking 13:19.30 as he finished 12th in the race, while Chaudhary broke the previous national mark of 15:15.89 that had stood for 13 years on behalf of Preeja Sreedharan by timing 15:10:35 for ninth place.
Sable also holds the national record in the 3000m steeplechase which is her favorite event. He had won a silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He has also already qualified for the men’s 3000m steeplechase at the 2023 World Championships in Athletics.
Sable and Chaudhary are currently training in the United States.
Chithravel, Sable and Chaudhary are all Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) athletes.
