DHAULPUR: Former Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vasundhara Raje has countered Ashok Gehlot’s claims, saying Rajasthan’s Chief Minister is lying out of fear of losing the 2023 Assembly elections and his false allegations show that he is shaken by the rebellion in the state Congress unit.
Targeting rivals inside Congress, Rajasthani Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot credited former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and two other leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with helping him save his government during the crisis of the 2020, when some congressional MLAs rioted and tried to overthrow his government.
Vasundhara Raje said, “Gehlot’s statement against me is a conspiracy. No one can insult me ​​as much as Gehlot did. his own party”.

Gehlot said, “Former Rajasthani Prime Ministers Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Shobha Rani and Kailash Meghwal knew that their party members were overthrowing the government. Vasundhara Raje Scindia and Kailash Meghwal had said that it has never been our tradition to overthrow the government elected on the basis of money. They did not support those who overthrew the government by which our government survived.”
Targeting rivals within the party, CM Gehlot said he asked the MLAs, who rioted, to return the money they had taken from the BJP so they could perform without any pressure.
“Amit Shah, Dharmendra Pradhan and Gajendra Shekhawat conspired together and distributed the money within the Rajasthan government. I advised our MLAs (who rebelled) that even if some of the levied money was spent by them, they should inform us.I will give you money and tell AICC,but don’t take BJP money.If you keep their money,then they will scare you,threaten you…They took away 25 MLA Amit Shah play very dangerous game, give his money back,” Gehlot said as he laid out the BJP’s game plan to overthrow its government.
Ashok Gehlot accused the BJP in July 2020 of trying to overthrow his government by offering bribes to Congress lawmakers, but the BJP denied any involvement.
The feud between Gehlot and Pilot has been simmering since before 2020 and Pilot was fired as deputy CM and removed as state unit head.
Pilot has again opened a new front against Gehlot, his old political rival within the party, claiming that the state government failed to investigate cases of alleged corruption during the Bharatiya Janata Party’s rule in Rajasthan and announced his plan to hold a fast day on April 11 to ask for action.
The Congress party has called a meeting to resolve the situation regarding Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Congress leader Sachin Pilot, party sources confirmed.
The new crisis emerged months before assembly polls in the state expected later this year.
Pilot is seen as an aspiring head of government, but Gehlot, who has not contested the presidential elections in Congress, seems intent on not handing over the reins of state to him.
The differences between the two had emerged starkly in 2020 with Pilot leading a “rebellion” against Gehlot.
The two leaders have punched each other on several occasions in the past.
