Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin will divorce her husband of three years | world news

Outgoing Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin has announced that she and her husband of three years, Markus Raikkonen, are divorcing.

THE 37 yearswho failed to win a second term in office last month, broke the news on Instagram Stories on Wednesday.

“Together we have filed for divorce. We are grateful for our 19 years together and for our beloved daughter,” the politician wrote.

“We are still best friends, close to each other and loving parents. In the future, we will always spend time together as family and with each other. We want you to respect our privacy. We will not comment no more about it.”

The couple have been together since they were 18 and have a five-year-old daughter, Emma Amalia Marin.

They tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in August 2020 while Ms Marin was on duty to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We lived through our youth together, came of age together and became parents to our dear daughter together,” Ms Marin added.

She has become one of Europe’s youngest female leaders and has been hailed for her cabinet’s handling of the pandemic, as well as for her leading role alongside President Sauli Niinisto in promoting the successful membership of Finland to NATO.

But his party’s views on Finland’s economy, which have emerged as the campaign’s main theme, have been challenged by conservatives.

She resigns from her post of Prime Minister following him electoral defeat in Aprilwhere the centre-right National Coalition Party claimed victory.
