IPL 2023: ‘We can make it to the playoffs as things are in our control’, says Piyush Chawla | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Mumbai (MI) Indians leg spinner Piyush Chawla, who had a dream IPL season, is quite confident his team will make it to the playoffs and said things were in our control before the game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday.
MI don’t want to leave anything to fate as they will spare no effort to win the remaining two games.
“Things are under our control. If we win our two remaining matches, we can finish 1st or 2nd. We just want to play good cricket. The team picked up momentum at the right time. Confidence is very good but there is a very thin line between confidence and overconfidence and we don’t want to cross that line,” Chawla said in a press release.

Chawla missed the IPL for the first time last year. The snub prompted him to think about his future but he wanted to return to the tournament for his son.
“When I wasn’t chosen last year and I wasn’t a commentator, a lot of things were going through my head. I wasn’t able to decide if I should come back or explore other things. My son is growing up and he was watching a lot of IPL and was really excited about it. So my family told me to push myself and play for him. So I’m playing for him and putting in that extra effort.
A veteran of the game, Chawla said he didn’t do anything special after missing out last year, but just remained confident in his abilities and supported himself.

“When you’ve been playing for 20 years, you don’t have to do anything special. I was playing T20 matches wherever I could. I am someone who is done with bowling in the nets. I like the challenge of bowling in a game.
Despite playing at the highest level for nearly two decades now, Chawla isn’t in the mood to stop anytime soon at 34.
“If it’s up to me, I would like to play for another 10 years. As long as I contribute to the team and put my body on the line, I will continue to play.
MI was unstoppable as the tournament went well after a bit of a rocky start. Chawla attributed the team’s success to supporting each other and getting into the rhythm at the right time.
“We were just supporting each other and enjoying our cricket. The best thing about cricket is that it is a team game but it is also an individual sport because only if individuals perform well can the team do well. People say Mumbai conceded 200 points, but we also chased it away, so you can imagine the kind of pitches we play on. The way we finished games is nice to watch from the locker room.
