An anti-capitalist coffee shop in Canada is closing after a year of operation, its owner has announced, citing a “lack of generational wealth/seed capital from ethically failed sources” as the reason why the business cannot continue.
Toronto café, The Anarchist, opened in March 2022 and previously described itself as an “anti-capitalist, anti-colonial café, shop and radical community space on stolen land,” BlogTO reported. It will close its doors on May 30.
“It’s been an amazing experience, connecting with so many great community members, sparking a desperately needed debate, raising the blood pressure of conservatives (which includes you, ‘anarcho-capitalists’ and ‘libertarians’), making the dream come true of most service workers not having to put up with the presence of class-traitorous professionals (pigs and the military) and experiencing ways of living and working that don’t eagerly embrace the sheer misanthropy of capitalism,” wrote shop owner Gabriel Sims- Fewer on the cafe’s website to announce the closure.

“Unfortunately, a lack of generational wealth/seed capital from ethically failed sources has left me unable to make it through the quiet winter season or grow in ways necessary to be sustainable over the long term,” he added.
