This year he has faced a tumultuous time, including knee surgery in January to repair a torn left meniscus, which led to his withdrawal from the Australian Open and a guilty plea in February for assaulting an ex-girlfriend.
However, the 28-year-old was lucky to avoid a conviction for “the single act of stupidity”, as the magistrate called it.
