Bride killed in wedding day accident: Groom tells memorial he’s ‘up there smiling for sure’ | US News

A memorial was held for a bride who was killed on her wedding day, with her husband saying he was feeling “the best I can”.

Aric Hutchinson was seriously injured in accident that killed his new wife Samantha Miller, 34, in late April.

He suffered a broken back, two broken legs and a brain injury and used a wheelchair for the beach vigil on Saturday.

About 100 mourners gathered at Folly Beach in South Carolina, the same beach where the couple tied the knot just hours before the crash.

“My body is getting back to where I can handle,” she told local TV station WCSC at the memorial.

“It’s as good as I can feel with the situation, but obviously, today and the outpouring of people has been just amazing. I know Sam would love that.

“I mean, she’s a beach girl, through and through,” he added.

“We walk in here most mornings, and that’s definitely her greeting. She’s up there smiling for sure.”

Mrs Miller was killed when an alleged booze driver crashed into a golf cart carrying the couple as they left their wedding reception.

Jamie Lee Komoroski, 25, faces one charge of reckless homicide and three counts of drunk driving that caused grievous bodily harm.

Andrew Gilreath, director of public safety for the Folly Beach area where the crash occurred, said data retrieved from his rental car indicated he was driving 65 mph in a 25 mph zone and braked only briefly. before hitting the golf cart.

Despite telling officers that he had only had two alcoholic beverages that night, his blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limitaccording to a toxicology report.

Two other people who were in the golf cart were also injured.
