CHANDIGARH: An YOU KNOW Officer and former Sonipat Municipal Commissioner Dharmender Singh was arrested from his Gurugram residence on Monday night in Rs 1.10 crore ‘work order cost improvement cash’ case related to Municipal Corporation building under construction by Sonipat.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Police Station, Faridabad was investigating the case. Dharmender was presented before the Anuradha Judicial Magistrate’s Court (JIC) in Faridabad on Tuesday and sent to police custody for five days. It is alleged that the accused illegally increased the amount of an offer from Rs 55 crore to Rs 87 crore for approval. He is also accused of accepting Rs 35 lakh bribes paid by a contractor to intermediaries Rajbir Sharma, Pankaj Garg AND J M Bhatia aka Bunty of Faridabad.
Singh held the additional post of Additional Resident Commissioner at Haryana Bhawan, New Delhi.
Initially, only in case registered at Kotwali Police Station in June 2022 Rambir SharmaPankaj Garg and JM Bhatia aka Bunty were named as charged.
Sharma was arrested in June last year and is currently on bail. His statement that he gave a bribe of Rs 35 lakh to Dharmender resulted in the latter’s arrest.
