Odisha FC appoint Sergio Lobera as head coach on two-year deal | Football News

NEW DELHI: Indian Super League (SIL) clubs Odisha FC announced on Wednesday the appointment of Sergio Lobera as the new head coach on a two-year contract.
Lobera, who has previously been linked with ISL clubs FC Goa And Bombay City F.C.will now take charge of Odisha FC in his next season.
The club have expressed their intention to raise their status in the league by appointing the Spanish coach.
Odisha FC had a successful season, winning the Super Cup and secure a spot in the AFC Cup group stage.

With Lobera’s expertise and experience in Indian football, the club aims to continue its growth and success in the coming seasons.
“Sergio Lobera’s reputation precedes him, having already left an indelible mark on the Indian football landscape during his previous stints with FC Goa and Mumbai City FC in the ISL,” the club said.
“Lobera’s arrival brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success, making him an ideal candidate to lead Odisha FC to greater heights,” the statement added.
Lobera spent four seasons as a coach in India, three of them at FC Goa, having joined the club in 2017 and taking them to the ISL playoffs for three consecutive seasons.

The Gaurs clinched the League Shield in his final season and also finished at the top. In 2019, FC Goa also won the Super Cup.
“This remarkable achievement showed Lobera’s ability to build a cohesive and competitive team capable of vying for the top honours,” the statement read.
With Mumbai City FC, Lobera won the ISL League Winners’ Shield in his first season at the club.
“With his vast knowledge of Indian football and his proven ability to build winning teams, Lobera is poised to guide Odisha FC to a brighter future. possession-based football will no doubt be welcomed by players and fans alike. Lobera’s arrival marks a new era for Odisha FC.”
The President of Odisha FC Raj Athwal said: “His appointment is an important moment for the club which signifies the direction and the aspiration towards which we want to go.”
