NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf Du Plessis said on Sunday that the team’s exit from the league stage was mainly due to the middle order’s inability to score points, losing wickets in the middle, to the team’s struggle to effectively finish games. , and the absence of power hitters in the lower order.
At bat, RCB posted a mammoth 197/5, thanks to a classy century from Virat Kohli (101 steps on 61 balls). In response, defending champions Gujarat Titans, riding a magnificent unbeaten 104 on 52 balls, chased the aggregate in 19.1 overs.

“Very disappointed. We played a very strong team tonight, an incredible hundred Shubmans. It was really wet in the second run. It was also wet in the first run, but there wasn’t a lot of grip in the second set and we also had to change the ball several times in the second set Virat played an amazing shot to give us a chance and thought it was a good score but Shubman played amazingly well to take the game away from us,” Du Plessis said in a post-match presentation.
“From a batting perspective, the top 4 contributed very well. We missed a few runs from the middle order consistently throughout the season, especially in the late innings, and also in the overs. middle we maybe didn’t get as many wickets as we would have liked he (Kohli) played very good cricket all season and as a partnership probably not a single match where we had under 40 as the opening combination We need to improve well in finishing matches, especially on the back Last year DK (Dinesh Karthik) had a purple spot and finished matches on the left, at right and center, but this season that wasn’t the case. And if you look at the successful teams, they probably have good hitters at five-on-six sixes and sevens,” he added.
Du Plessis also completed a memorable IPL 2023 with the bat.
