Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo fell off his bicycle and briefly lost consciousness while riding with his son.

He was taken to hospital but tests revealed no lasting effects.

It happened on Saturday when Mr. De Croo, 47, was near his home in the Flemish region, according to the Belga news agency.

Posting a video on social media from his home on Sunday, the Prime Minister thanked medical staff for looking after him.

“Fortunately, I was wearing a helmet and my son called for help,” he says.

“Sport is good for your health. But sometimes you have to be a little careful,” he added, also thanking supporters for their messages.

The accident is not expected to affect the prime minister’s work schedule for the coming week, Belga reported.
