MUMBAI: A 16-year-old boy died by suicide after his father took away his cellphone. Malwani police learnt from his family that he was hooked to playing games on his phone.
The police have recorded an accidental death case. As the boy was a minor, his identity has been kept confidential.
According to the police, the boy lived with his parents at Malwani.
Late on November 16, he had an argument with his father. Police said his father took away his cellphone as he was playing games constantly and asked him to go to bed.
The boy was very upset. On previous occasions when his parents had taken away the phone, the boy had threatened to harm himself.
On November 17, when the family woke up, they found the boy hanging from a tin hook in the kitchen using a dupatta.
His father cut down the dupatta and rushed the boy to a private hospital in Malwani. Doctors pronounced him dead before admission. The police was informed and the body was sent for an autopsy.
Police said they have recorded statements of the boy’s family members.
