‘Rahul and Gandhi family’s hunger for power shaking INDIA bloc,’ says BJP | India News

NEW DELHI: BJP leader Sambit Patra on Wednesday attacked the Congress and Rahul Gandhi by accusing the Gandhi family of being power hungry. He also alleged the ambitions of Rahul is “shaking INDIA bloc”.
Talking about the Emergency, Patra said: “Indira Gandhi imposed the Emergency in 1971 due to her hunger for power, following a corrupt election practice case in the Allahabad High Court.”
Patra claimed the same ambition is seen in Rahul which is not helping the opposition alliance.“This same hunger for power is now seen in Rahul and the Gandhi family, shaking the INDIA alliance. Despite knowing the mistakes made by his grandmother, Rahul is conflicted due to the desire for power … This is an incredible situation, even as we were saying yesterday that we will proceed together. They were insisting on having their candidate, even knowing they lacked numbers,” he said.
Sambit Patra criticized the opposition and Congress party. Patra said that true respect for the Constitution comes from the heart and cannot be demonstrated merely by holding copies of it.
” You can’t protect the Constitution by showing the copies of the Constitution but there should be respect for it in the heart,” he said.
During the address, Patra remarked, “The moment Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla brought a resolution in the House against the Emergency today, Congress MPs in protest rushed towards the Well of the House, but Samajwadi Party MPs remained seated. Rahul Gandhi was confused about what to do then. Today, Congress MPs holding copies of the Constitution in the House were trying to appear as protectors of the Constitution. You can’t protect the Constitution by showing the copies of the Constitution but there should be respect for it in the heart.”
Patra also brought attention to the hardships faced during the Emergency, including changes to the MISA law, thousands of incarcerations, and 22 custodial deaths. He mentioned prominent leaders jailed during that time, such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani, Charan Singh, Mulayam Singh Yadav, and others.
