NEW DELHI: A US woman named Taylor Casey has been missing since last week after she traveled to the Bahamas to attend a yoga retreat, her family and police said.
According to ABC News, the 41-year-old woman was last seen on June 19 around Paradise Island. The Royal Bahamas police force is currently searching for Casey.
The search for Casey continued on Tuesday, with authorities, who took the help of ground teams and drones, the police force told ABC News.
“I believe Taylor is in danger because she was eager to share her yoga retreat experience with others upon her return,” Taylor’s mother, Colette Seymour said in the latest news release. “Taylor would never disappear like this.”
The retreat organisers discovered Casey’s disappearance on June 20, when she failed to attend her morning classes, according to a statement. She was last seen late in the evening on June 19. “The organisation has notified the US Embassy and Taylor Casey’s family about her disappearance,” the statement added.
“The Ashram is asking anyone with information on Casey to contact the local police,” the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Bahamas said in a statement to ABC News on Tuesday. “In the interim, it is collaborating with the authorities on their investigation.”
“When a US citizen is missing, we work closely with local authorities as they carry out their search efforts, and we share information with families however we can,” the spokesperson said. “The Department of State has no higher priority than the welfare and safety of US citizens abroad. We stand ready to provide assistance to US citizens in need and to their families.”
Casey is described as a light-skinned Black woman, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing around 145 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes, and her natural hair is often covered by a durag, according to her family.
Earlier this year, the US State Department cautioned travelers to be extra careful when visiting the Bahamas, including Nassau, due to crime. They highlighted that “violent crime, such as burglaries, armed robberies, and sexual assaults, happen in both tourist and non-tourist areas.” This warning urged visitors to stay vigilant for their safety.
