Hizb-ut-Tahrir case: NIA conducts searches at 10 locations in Tamil Nadu | Chennai News

NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) initiated searches at 10 locations across Tamil Nadu on Sunday morning in connection with the Hizb-ut-Tahrir case.

Among these were two sites in the Erode district. The raids are still ongoing, and more information is awaited.
The NIA had previously arrested an individual in 2021 following searches related to the Madurai Hizb-ut-Tahrir case.
This case was initially registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 13(1)(b) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
“The raids are still going on,” sources said.
The case was lodged at the Thideer Nagar police station in Madurai city, Tamil Nadu. The accused, Mohammed Iqbal, had allegedly used his Facebook account “Thoonga Vizhigal Rendu is in Kazimar Street” to upload posts that denigrated a particular community.
These posts were said to foment communal disharmony among different religious groups in a manner prejudicial to the maintenance of public order.
