NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two people associated with the international pan-Islamist organization, Hizb-ut-Tahrir on Sunday. The arrested men, identified as Abdul Rehman alias Abdul Rahman and Mujibur Rehman alias Mujibur Rahman Altham Sahib, both hail from Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu.
The arrests followed extensive searches conducted across ten locations spanning five districts in the southern state.According to a statement issued by the NIA, the Hizb-ut-Tahrir is committed to re-establishing the Islamic caliphate and implementing the constitution formulated by its founder, Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani.
“NIA investigations revealed that they were involved in conducting secret classes to radicalise youth into extremist ideologies, propagating anti-democratic sentiments against the Indian Constitution, law, and judiciary,” the statement said as reported by PTI.
The agency highlighted that the trainees were indoctrinated with the belief that India is currently “Darul Kufr” (land of non-believers) and that it is their religious duty to transform it into “Darul Islam” by establishing an Islamic State through violent jihad.
During the searches, NIA seized digital devices such as mobile phones, laptops, SIM cards, memory cards, along with incriminating documents including books and printouts detailing the ideology of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, Khilafa (caliphate), Islamic State structures, and its funding mechanisms.
