NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday slammed the Mamata Banerjee-led government in West Bengal over a video of a man brutally assaulting a couple in public and accused the opposition for its silence over this incident.
Targeting Mamata Banerjee, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said, “In North Dinajpur, there is a TMC leader named Tajmul aka JCB who does not have faith in the Constitution of India.At Mamata Banerjee‘s behest, he claims they will deliver swift justice in Taliban style.”
“Mamata Banerjee’s faith is no longer in the Constitution; she has given free rein to her party’s goons to impose Sharia law, resembling Taliban rule,” he added.
Bhatia also questioned the INDIA bloc and mocked its leaders for their silence over the issue.
“Do the opposition parties standing with the Constitution agree with what is happening with West Bengal?” he asked.
“Kharge ji chup, Sonia Gandhi ji shant, Rahul Gandhi ke lab sil gye, Akhilesh ke muh mein dahi jam gayi, Arvind kejriwal suipatak sannata. Kharge ji is silent, Sonia Gandhi ji is calm, Rahul Gandhi’s lips are sealed, Akhilesh is speechless, and Arvind Kejriwal is in pin drop silence,” he added.
“Only the BJP is raising the issue strongly,” he further claimed.
Earlier today, BJP president JP Nadda slammed the chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday over a “horrific” video.
Taking to X, Nadda said, “A horrific video has come to light from West Bengal, reminding of the brutalities that exist only in theocracies. To make matters worse, the TMC cadre and MLAs are justifying the act.”
“Be it Sandeshkhali, Uttar Dinajpur or many other places, Didi’s West Bengal is UNSAFE for women,” he added.
The West Bengal Police on Sunday registered a case over the incident.
The man seen in the video beating up a couple with a bamboo stick was allegedly a local TMC leader of Chopra in Uttar Dinajpur district where the incident occurred following a kangaroo court decision.
The accused, Tajmul alias JCB, was arrested.
