Neeraj Chopra’s mother responds to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘churma’ request | Off the field News

Saroj Devi, the mother of India’s Olympic gold medallist javelin-thrower Neeraj Chopra, has said she will prepare a special ‘churma‘ for Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the PM expressed his desire to taste the home-made version of the delicacy during a recent conversation with Chopra ahead of the Paris Olympics beginning July 26.
‘Churma’, a popular sweet dish from the states of Haryana and Rajasthan, holds a special place in the region’s culinary heritage.

On Thursday, PM Modi hosted India’s Paris Olympics-bound athletes at his residence to have a conversation with them. During such a chat with Chopra, PM asked the Olympic champion to bring homemade ‘churma’ for him prepared by his mother.

During the conversation, PM Modi joked, “Mera churma abhi tak aaya nahi (I haven’t received my churma yet)”.

A shy Neeraj replied, “Is baar Haryana wala choorma khilayenge sir, pichli baar Delhi ka cheeni wala khaya tha” (This time I will treat you with churma from Haryana; last time we had the sugary one from Delhi).
PM Modi then said he wants to eat the one made by his mother. “Mujhe tumhari maa ke haath ka choorma khana hai (I want to eat the churma made by your mother).”
Responding to PM’s request, Chopra’s mother told IANS: “We wish that Neeraj wins the gold medal again and get the opportunity to meet PM Modi again. Yes, this time I’ll send special churma made with ‘desi ghee’, ‘shakkar’ and ‘khand’.”
During their lighthearted conversation, the Prime Minister gave his best wishes to Neeraj for the Games in Paris, where Neeraj will defend the gold medal he won in Tokyo.
