Rishabh Pant credits off-field bond with Shubman Gill for strong on-field partnership | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: India’s star wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant disclosed that his successful partnership with Shubman Gill on the field is a reflection of their camaraderie off the field. This partnership was crucial during the team’s second innings in the opening Test against Bangladesh.
Despite a lackluster performance from both players in the first innings, they turned things around with a 167-run stand in the second innings, which proved vital for the team’s overall success.
“When you have a great relationship outside the field, it helps to bat with that guy. We were having fun, having chats, talking about the game, and staying relaxed. At the end of the day, we both knew what we wanted to do,” Pant said in a BCCI video posted on social media platform X.

“The understanding of the game for me is that cricket should improve wherever you play. So, I was trying to help the team that you can set a fielder here, and it was amazing. I enjoyed it.”
The century was a significant milestone for the 26-year-old Pant, who returned to Test cricket after nearly two years away due to a serious car accident. This injury had kept him out of the sport for nearly 16 months.
In the second innings, Pant scored 109 off 128 deliveries, featuring 13 fours and four sixes. His innings showcased a balanced mix of aggression and defense.
Reflecting on his comeback, Pant admitted to being nervous but said his determination drove him to succeed.
“I was very nervous. I was very jittery, but there was some fire inside that I wanted to make it happen, and eventually, I did it, and I’m happy,” he added.
India secured a 280-run victory over Bangladesh before heading to Kanpur for the final Test.
